If you’re like me, any special occasion is a chance for me to go all out and put on a spread for loved ones. This year I decided Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to host my First High Tea. Something I had been wanting to do for a while.
I moved out of home last year, so I have not had much experience with Hosting events, however I wanted to make this Mother’s Day Special and thought I’d give it a go. When Hosting, you can go as big or little as you want, I myself, am one to always go over the top so below are some tips I follow when creating and planning an event.
Colour Scheme:
I Started with my colour scheme; I based mine around the Maxwell & Williams Tea’s & C’s Set I have which is called ‘Silk Road’ it has Bright Blues, Pinks and Greens. This was my starting point for finding Decorations and food to match.
Decorations:
Next, were decorations. I started keeping an eye out for items that would go on my table with hints of the colours I was running with. I found some perfect gold candle stick holders which matched my tea set border and some pink and white candle sticks to match. I also ordered two bunches of fresh flowers from a local supplier to introduce some other colours and keep it elegant and fresh. Finally, I used the gorgeous Ecology Fleur Delphine Vase with some gorgeous faux yellow lavender. I found this to be enough to add colour and make the table more interesting while keeping it simple and elegant. I find it is important to incorporate different height decorations to add dimensions to your table.
Food:
For the food, I decided on typical Tea party food, think Fairy Bread, Finger Sandwiches and some cocktail style hot food. As I was short on time and wouldn’t have time to make assorted sweet treats myself, I ordered some Muffingtons from a lovely local client of ours and some cupcakes from my neighbour. I think it is important to remember, if you are short of time, sometimes it’s better to order food to make sure you don’t stress yourself out and can enjoy the process and not feel overwhelmed. Finally, to finish our spread off, I selected some Lollies and coloured popcorn to go with the colour theme and added some fruit salad to cocktail glasses, to add a bit of extra wow factor on the table.
Finally, & Most Importantly the Tea Station:
My tea tonic tea station, I had the mugs out ready on the island bench for people to help themselves. I had 3 flavours of pre brewed tea, I had a cold Body reset which has a flavour profile of Sweet Peach Nectarine. I made this in my Tea tonic Wine bottle and added some tin peaches and strawberries in the bottom to add extra flavour.
I then had my personal favourite, Chocolate Chai in a Tea pot, I used Tea tonics 1.5 Litre glass teapot, this is great as it has a base to light a tea candle underneath to keep it warm all day. Then I went with a more common English Breakfast tea by tea tonic. This was for those who wanted something Strong, Robust and flavourful. The qualities of these teas are amazing, and everyone went on about how great they tasted! My final touch was having an assorted tea bag box from Tea Tonic next to the station so if someone wanted to try something else, the box contains 33 options of teabags for them to choose from, it’s sure to have something for everyone.
It was a beautiful Mother’s Day, and I believe it will now be a yearly tradition. If you want to give your own High Tea or Tea Party a go, I hope these tips help!
